Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has termed the current Liverpool team "average" and believes Jurgen Klopp has a job on his hands turning the Reds around.

Klopp has been drafted into the dugout at Anfield following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers, but despite the Northern Irishman spending close to a third of a billion pounds on new players over the last three years, the German has inherited a group struggling to make their mark.

Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw with Russian side Rubin Kazan in the Europa League on Thursday evening, failing to break down their opponents even when they were reduced to ten men.

Next up is a visit from Southampton in the Premier League tomorrow and Redknapp thinks Klopp has his work cut out.

The former Spurs boss said on BT Sport: "I've said all along that for me it's a very average Liverpool team.

If Liverpool beat Southampton tomorrow and other results go in their favour, the Reds could jump up from their current placing of 12th to sixth.

Klopp's men are still two points better off than champions Chelsea, despite their poor start, as the Blues are 15th with only eleven points from ten games.
