Leeds United need another senior goalkeeper to challenge Italian shot-stopper Marco Silvestri, head coach Steve Evans believes.

The Whites signed former Chelsea custodian Ross Turnbull in the summer, but he is currently out injured, meaning Silvestri's only competition comes from inexperienced youngster Charlie Horton.

Turnbull is recovering from a broken ankle, which means his absence is expected to be long term. And Evans would like a goalkeeper who is capable of pushing Silvestri for the number 1 shirt and putting pressure on the player.

The Italian goalkeeper played his part in Leeds conceding a soft goal in a 1-1 draw away at Bolton Wanderers today.

And Evans told LUTV after the match: "I don't think it's any hidden secret that Leeds United should have two goalkeepers that compete for the number 1 shirt.

"It's not Marco's fault, nothing can be laid at his door; he's left being the only one competing for the shirt in reality."

Silvestri has been praised for his shot-stopping ability, but has occasionally been at fault for goals during his time at Elland Road.

Evans appears keen to raid to loan market to bring in another experienced goalkeeper to challenge the Italian.
