Halmstads BK forward Matthew Rusike is refusing to be drawn on talk he is wanted by Premier League club Newcastle United.

Rusike only joined Halmstads earlier this year on an 18-month deal from South African giants Kaizer Chiefs, but is set to take advantage of a break clause in his contract due to the club's relegation from the Swedish top flight.

A number of clubs are eyeing keeping Rusike in Scandinavia, but he has also been linked with Steve McClaren's Newcastle, who are fighting for survival in the Premier League.

But Rusike is not willing to be drawn on Newcastle wanting to sign him and when asked by Swedish daily Kvallsposten, replied: "No comment."

He is willing to admit though that he is sure a number of sides have taken an interest in him.

"I am sure many teams have looked and many have seen me when the national team plays", the Zimbabwe star explained.

"I hope everything resolves itself for me and that Halmstads return straight away [to the top flight]."

Rusike scored three goals for Halmstads in the Allsvenskan this year, but was unable to help prevent the side finishing second bottom and being relegated.
