Newcastle United are amongst the clubs chasing the signature of Zimbabwe forward Matthew Rusike.

The 25-year-old currently turns out in Sweden for Halmstads BK, however the club's struggles in the country's top tier mean that he could soon be set for an exit.

Halmstads have been relegated this year, finishing second bottom of the Allsvenskan, something which mean a clause in Rusike's contract allowing him to leave has kicked in.

The forward has now opted to use the break clause in his contract and is currently considering his next move.

Struggling Premier League side Newcastle are interested in his services, while a number of clubs in Scandinavia are also eyeing up a move for Rusike, in the event he does not head to St. James' Park.

Rusike told Swedish daily Kvallsposten"My destination? I do not want to comment on it right now, but I do have some things that I am thinking of, but it's a little early yet.

"Hopefully it goes well", he added.

Rusike only joined Halmstads earlier this year, heading to the Swedish club from South African giants Kaizer Chiefs on an 18-month contract.

He spent time in the youth ranks at Charlton Athletic earlier in his career.
