Remy Cabella feels being compared to Dimitri Payet so soon after signing for Marseille is unfair and pointed out that the current West Ham star took time to establish himself as a key man at the Stade Velodrome too.

Marseille sold Payet to West Ham in the summer transfer window, depriving themselves of an essential cog in their team. But the French giants acted to replace the midfielder with Cabella, who arrived on a season-long loan from Newcastle United.

Cabella has had a slow start to his career at Marseille, much to the disappointment of fans who had been banking on him to help them forget the pain of losing Payet.

But the midfielder insists that Payet was not instantly a star man at Marseille and he is also still finding his way back into regular first team action after missing pre-season.

"Payet did tremendous things at Marseille, but it also took him time to impose himself", Cabella told L'Equipe.

"Remember that I have missed preparations for two years.

"I went directly to Newcastle after the World Cup and this season I missed all the preparation with a thigh tear. I need to be at the top physically because I give 100 per cent."

So far this season Cabella has made 12 appearances for Marseille in all competitions, but has not scored, while he has only provided his team-mates with a single assist.

The midfielder is enjoying regular game time though, clocking up all 90 minutes in Marseille's last six consecutive Ligue 1 games.
