Businessman Steve Parkin is not considering buying Massimo Cellino's shareholding in Leeds United, but only investing in the club, it has been claimed.

Cellino has been in the market to sell his majority shareholding in the Elland Road outfit and recently agreed in principle to sell to supporter group Leeds Fans United.

He soon backtracked though and called off a deal with the fan group.

Parkin, who is a Leeds fan and has previously tried to buy the club, is reported to have been asked to pay a deposit for the right to exclusivity and to examine the Whites' books.

But according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Parkin is not looking to buy Cellino's stake, but instead seeking to simply invest in Leeds.

Cellino is currently the majority shareholder at Elland Road, with Middle East group GFH Capital holding a minority shareholding; there have been no signs GFH are looking to sell presently.

The Italian is fighting a Football League ban which will prevent him from running Leeds until next summer.

Should Parkin choose to invest in the club, it could leave Cellino still in a strong position.
