Leeds United striker Lee Erwin will be in for training over the weekend and then play for the club's Under-21 side on Monday, something he does not even know yet, Whites head coach Steve Evans has revealed.

Evans, who tried to sign Erwin from Motherwell when in charge of his former club Rotherham United, handed the Scot a chance to impress this evening when he started him in a friendly fixture away at Wycombe Wanderers.

Erwin looked sharp and scored Leeds' first of the night in the first half, impressing his boss.

But while Evans was pleased to see Erwin in action and rates him highly, he does believe the striker needs to be fitter than he is at present, while his strength is also an area which can be improved.

And as part of the plan Erwin will be in at the weekend and then playing again on Monday for the club's Under-21s.

"I think we need to get him a bit fitter. He is pushing [for a first team spot] obviously, but we need to get him a bit fitter and sharper", Evans told LUTV.

"I think you come from Motherwell and work so hard in the summer, and you go on loan to Bury, so you probably think your road is ending as much as you were made up when you joined Leeds.

"I don't really think he got a fair crack.

"We brought him in and we're going to give him that, so he'll train over the weekend. He's not going to have any time [off] and he’ll play in the 21s on Monday; which he doesn’t know yet [laughs].

"I just want to see him a bit leaner, the way he was at Motherwell. A little bit stronger, because if you're lean and you're strong it's muscle and nothing else", the Leeds boss added.

Erwin will be hoping another good performance on Monday can put him in the mix to feature against Rotherham United when Leeds' next Championship fixture rolls around. And he appears to have a firm fan in Evans.
