West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has labelled Diafra Sakho an “exceptional player”, ahead of his side’s London derby against Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow.

The Senegalese forward, who has scored five goals in 12 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers this season, is expected to return from his injury layoff and feature against Spurs.

A thigh injury forced Sakho to miss West Ham’s previous two Premier League fixtures, a 2-0 defeat to Watford and a 1-1 draw with Everton.

And Gold feels Sakho, whom he considers a very hard working striker, returning to action along with defensive midfielder Alex Song will be a big boost for West Ham boss Slaven Bilic.

“We have players like Alex Song and Diafra Sakho who are ready to come back into the squad and that is a big boost for Slaven”, he wrote on his blog.

“Sakho is an exceptional player and I don't think there is another striker in the Premier League who covers as much ground as he does. He is not just a goalscorer and works so hard for the team.”

Gold further added that he expects a tough game against Tottenham, but insisted that he confident about the Hammers attaining a positive result at White Hart Lane.

“It will not be easy against a Tottenham side who have performed well this season and have a good squad of players and a good manager”, he continued.

“But we go there full of optimism and confident that we can come away with a positive result.”

Tottenham and West Ham have both managed to acquire 21 points from 12 fixtures this term.
