Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has eased injury concerns over midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The German missed out on first team training earlier today, something which set alarm bells ringing over whether the former Bayern Munich man would be ready to take on PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

But Van Gaal, speaking at his pre-match press conference, confirmed the reason Schweinsteiger was not at training was simply because he had been given an extra day to recover from Manchester United's win at Watford at the weekend.

Van Gaal then added: "Which doesn't mean he cannot play."

Schweinsteiger was in good form against Watford at Vicarage Road and provided the shot which led to the side's winner late on; Manchester United won 2-1.

The German got his foot around the ball close to the byline and pulled it back, allowing a Watford player to bundle it into the back of his own net.

It remains to be seen whether Van Gaal will choose to start Schweinsteiger against PSV Eindhoven tomorrow night as he looks to plot a win over the Dutch outfit.
