Leeds United legend Eddie Gray believes that options for Whites boss Steve Evans to add to his squad before the emergency loan window closes on Thursday night are limited.

Evans has made no secret of his desire to bring in fresh faces before the loan window shuts and has publicly admitted chasing Sunderland midfielder Liam Bridcutt and Norwich City forward Kyle Lafferty.

But Norwich have ruled out Lafferty leaving before January, while Bridcutt played for Sunderland's Under-21s this evening.

Gray feels Leeds have to sign players with the quality to walk straight into the team and help the side's fortunes, but he cautioned that in November there are a limited amount of players available who are able to do so.

He told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "I’d be concerned if nothing happens because Steve’s talked a lot about getting players in and he seems to know who he wants.

"He obviously thinks we don’t have the right quality and it’ll help him if he gets a couple of players who fit into his way of doing things.

"But if you’re signing players in November then they have to be players who’ll walk straight into your team. Anything else is pointless", Gray explained.

"People have to realise that, at this stage of the season, there aren’t that many good players out there waiting to be signed.

"That’s not me making excuses for nothing happening. What I’m saying is that if you’re trying to bring in more quality – and the team at Leeds needs more quality, there’s no doubt about that – then this isn’t really the time when you’ve got loads of options available."

It remains to be seen if Leeds can secure signings before the window closes, as Evans looks to shake up his group, having bemoaned a lack of quality in Saturday's 1-0 home defeat to Rotherham United.
