Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has joked at a reporter, who questioned his lack of spending in the transfer market.

The Frenchman invited the reporter out for a night so that he can show him that he does not refrain from spending money, in contrast to his reputation as a manager.

Wenger looked relieved following his side’s comfortable 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb last night, as they look to somehow keep their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League alive.

After a horrible start to their European adventure, where Wenger’s side lost three of their opening four games, the Gunners stand a chance of progressing to the next round, if they beat Olympiacos on the final matchday with a goal difference of two or above.

The north London outfit also need to thank Bayern Munich, who comprehensively beat Olympiacos, for keeping them in the mix. Had Pep Guardiola’s men failed to win against Olympiacos, Arsenal would have been relegated to a Europa League berth.

Wenger’s activity in the transfer market, or lack thereof, has come under immense scrutiny following the injury sustained by Francis Coquelin.

The midfielder has been ruled out for three months after spraining his knee ligaments and the injury has threatened to derail Arsenal’s season.

During his press conference, following the win over Zagreb, a reporter asked: "I know you don't like to spend money…"

The reporter was cut short by Wenger, who was quoted by ITV as saying: "No, I don't agree with you. If I invite you one night, you will see that I like to spend money.

“It's you, the press, who gave me this reputation. But my friends don't think that."

It will be interesting to note if the Frenchman decides to sign replacement for Coquelin during the January transfer window.
