Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes the Reds are experiencing a Jurgen Klopp effect within the club.

The Reds sacked Brendan Rodgers and brought in the former Borussia Dortmund coach to replace him at Anfield last month and the German has made an immediate impact.

The results have picked up and two impressive away wins over Chelsea and Manchester City have allowed Klopp to stamp his mark on English football, very early into his stint at Liverpool.

Gerrard is impressed with the way the German is transforming the club and has lifted the spirits of everyone associated with Liverpool, which has been crucial to their recovery from a lethargic start to the season.

The former Liverpool captain said on BT Sport: “Jurgen Klopp has been great for the football club.

“He has lifted the fans, he has lifted all the staff and you can see he has lifted all the players.

"He has been given them the cuddles, he has brought all the smiles back.”

Gerrard admits that it will still take some time for the Klopp to transform the club into a powerhouse again, but is confident that the German will work his magic and turn Liverpool into a force again in the near future.

“It was a difficult start to the season and it is going to take time, but I am sure once he has worked with these players over a good length of time, I think Liverpool will be a force.

“In time to come they will certainly be competing for all the big trophies that are out there.”

Liverpool will host Bordeaux in the Europa League at Anfield tomorrow night.
