Manchester United striker James Wilson has linked up with Championship high flyers Brighton and Hove Albion on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old striker has made just two appearances for Louis van Gaal’s men this season and injuries and the rise of Anthony Martial have not allowed the forward to enjoy more opportunities this term.

Brighton are second in the Championship table, and are yet to lose a game in the English second tier this season. Van Gaal will be hoping that the young striker gets opportunities to impress at the Falmer Stadium to aid his development, before he returns to Old Trafford next summer.

Brighton boss Chris Hughton is delighted to welcome Wilson to the south coast club and revealed that he had to fend off competition from a number of clubs in the Championship to secure the deal with Manchester United.

He is hoping that Wilson adds more goals to his side to help maintain their form this season, as they look to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Hughton was quoted as saying by Manchester United’s official website: "We have been keen to add a striker, and James has been our number one target for some time, so we are absolutely delighted to have completed the deal.

"He is an exciting young striker, and we hope that this move will prove to be very good for all parties involved.

"There was a huge amount of competition from rival clubs to sign James on loan and it has been another great team effort to secure his signature.

“I now hope he will help us maintain our excellent start to the season, and bring additional goals to the squad."

Wilson could make his debut for Brighton tomorrow when they host Birmingham at the Falmer Stadium.
