Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that forward Sergio Aguero’s injury, picked up in today's 3-1 win over Southampton, is not too serious.

The Argentina international has been struggling with injuries this season and only recently returned to action after a lengthy layoff due to hamstring struggles.

He started in Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Southampton earlier today, but the home fans feared the worst when the Argentine was seen holding his ankle and was subsequently taken off to be replaced by Wilfried Bony after the hour mark.

Pellegrini has revealed that taking off the star striker was just a precautionary measure and insisted that the forward was not supposed to last much longer in the game, as decided before the match.

He also insisted that the injury is just a knock on Aguero’s heels and there are no reasons to fear that it could be anything worse.

Pellegrini told the BBC: “Kun [Aguero] came off as a precaution.

“I spoke with him before the game and we said he would play 65 minutes. He has a kick in his heel, but nothing important."

It remains to be seen whether the Manchester City boss decides to risk Aguero for their League Cup quarter-final against Hull City this Tuesday night.
