Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has savaged his old club for their defensive tactics against QPR at Loftus Road on Saturday.

The Whites came off second best against QPR, but despite dominating the game, the R's only managed to win 1-0.

The goal came when substitute Charlie Austin got free of his marker at a corner and headed into the back of the net, a blow from which Leeds could not recover.

For Whelan, Leeds' defensive tactics were naive and he angrily blasted the Whites for not marking Austin with their best defender.

He said on BBC Radio Leeds: "I didn't feel we won the midfield, we didn't create enough chances, we didn't defend properly when it came to the crucial goal.

"You have to have your best defender marking their best player, and that's Charlie Austin.

"They had Charlie Taylor marking him – come on! This is professional football", Whelan blasted.

"It should have been organised and you should be able to adapt to the situation."

Leeds have now lost their last two Championship games in a row after a run of two victories in a row, adding defeat to QPR to a home loss to Rotherham United last weekend.

Now the Yorkshire giants are just four points above the relegation zone and face a visit from fourth placed Hull City next weekend, a game Evans will be desperate to see his side avoid defeat in to stop the rot.
