Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has written off Aston Villa's chances of remaining in the Premier League, dubbing the club "doomed".

The Villa Park outfit, who won the European Cup in the 1980s, are currently rock bottom of the Premier League table and showing no sign of improving.

They axed former Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood earlier this season and have turned to a man with no managerial experience in the Premier League as his replacement in the shape of Remi Garde.

The Frenchman's side lost 3-2 at home to newly promoted Watford on Saturday and Lawrenson dubbed Villa "doomed".

"I think Aston Villa are doomed", he said on LFC TV.

"They can't score and defensively….

"I just think they are doomed", he added.

Aston Villa have won just once in the league so far this term, losing eleven of their 14 games. Garde's men have just five points and are already seven points away from safety.

Next up for Aston Villa is a visit to Southampton before they then entertain Arsenal.
