James Milner says the main thing for Liverpool today was to win, following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Swansea City at Anfield in difficult, windy conditions.

Liverpool and Swansea both started the game slowly and chances were at a premium in the first half. The Welsh outfit headed in happier at half time, with the scores locked at 0-0.

But the Reds got a break in the second half, with Jordon Ibe hitting a cross which was handballed by Neil Taylor, allowing Milner to step up and fire into the back of the net from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute.

Liverpool then successfully saw out the result, even giving Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge vital minutes on the pitch, another positive.

For Milner, the most important thing was to pick up all three points, which Liverpool did.

He was quoted as saying by the BBC: "It wasn't the prettiest of games. It was important to win.

"The win last week against Manchester City would have been a waste if we had not won.

"It was tough conditions for the match. I don't think it was ever going to be the best game to watch and it was all about getting the points", Milner continued.

"It was brilliant to see them [Henderson and Sturridge] out there as they are big misses when they are out.

"There is a long way to go but shows what a few wins can do."

Liverpool's win has moved them up to sixth in the Premier League table, four points off the top four.
