Leeds United midfielder Tom Adeyemi is of the opinion that playing Liam Bridcutt behind him helped him to contribute in the 2-1 win over Hull City at the weekend.

The 24-year-old, who is currently on loan from Cardiff City, scored the Whites’ second goal late in the first-half at Elland Road.

Adeyemi normally operates in a deeper role, but with emergency loan signing Bridcutt playing as a holding midfielder just in front of the defence, the former Norwich City man was given the license to roam forward much more often against the Tigers by Leeds manager Steve Evans.

And Adeyemi, who scored his second goal since his move to the club in the summer, explained that he relished playing in his new role.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the role that I played, playing slightly forward than I have done in the past”, he said on BBC Radio Leeds.

“And I think it helped me having Liam Bridcutt in behind me, in front of the back four for the game.

“It gave me the license to push on and I was able to break into the box on a few occasions and I picked up my goal that way.”

Adeyemi, who is a product of Norwich City’s youth system, also counts Bradford City, Brentford and Birmingham City amongst his former employers.

He has thus far amassed 16 Championship appearances for Leeds.
