Manchester United are receiving daily reports on James Wilson's progress at Championship side Brighton, Seagulls boss Chris Hughton has revealed.

Eyebrows were raised when Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal chose to send Wilson on a loan spell with Brighton, given Manchester United's goalscoring issues.

But in sharp contrast to his time at Manchester United this season, Wilson is featuring on a regular basis on the south coast and becoming a key man for the Seagulls.

And Hughton insists that the Red Devils want to be kept up to date on Wilson, who has scored two goals in four appearances for the Championship high-fliers.

Hughton told BBC Sussex: "We keep them informed of his game, his physical stats and his video clips.

"That is all sent through to Manchester United.

"They are aware of what he has done on a daily basis."

Hughton's Brighton currently sit second in the Championship, just behind league leaders Middlesbrough on goal difference.

The Seagulls will hope Wilson has his scoring boots on tomorrow when they host Middlesbrough in what already looks like a clash which could have a key bearing on the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League.
