Liverpool have contacted Lazio to ask about the availability of goalkeeper Federico Marchetti, according to Sky Italia.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is continuing to scour the transfer marker for a new goalkeeper, despite having publicly backed Simon Mignolet.

The German was forced to field Mignolet's backup, Adam Bogdan, against Watford last weekend, but saw the understudy fumble the ball to hand the Hornets their first goal in a 3-0 win.

Now Klopp is hunting another shot-stopper and following an enquiry about AC Milan's Diego Lopez, has turned his attention to Marchetti.

The Lazio goalkeeper's contract expires at the end of the season and he could be attracted towards the idea of heading away from Italy.

Lazio may also be keen to earn a fee from his sale next month rather than lose him on a free transfer in the summer.

The 32-year-old, who joined Lazio in 2011 from fellow Italian side Cagliari, has won eleven caps at international level for Italy.

He started his career in the youth ranks at Torino.
