Serie A outfit Sampdoria are still keen to sign on loan Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli in the January transfer window.

Sampdoria were willing to take the mercurial forward from Liverpool last summer, but the striker finally joined AC Milan on a season-long loan deal to pour cold water on club president Massimo Ferrero’s plans.

However, Ferrero has not lost heart and it has been suggested that the Sampdoria president still harbours the dream of signing the forward, despite Balotelli being happy at AC Milan.

According to Italian outlet Il Secolo XIX, the Sampdoria president could rekindle his interest in the striker in the January transfer window and take one more shot at signing the 25-year-old next month, after failing last summer.

The club are hoping to convince Liverpool to break their agreement with AC Milan to loan the forward out to Sampdoria in January and also bear half of his wages until the end of the season.

Balotelli last played for the Rossoneri this season towards the end of September and has been out of action since due to a groin injury, which required surgery.

AC Milan will return to action after a short winter break on 6th January against Bologna, and it remains to be see whether the striker will be fit enough to take the field.

Despite his injury problems La Samp want to see the forward wearing their colours this season.
