Leeds United have been hit with a major blow as the club's head of recruitment Martyn Glover has left for a position at Sunderland, it has been claimed.

Glover departed West Ham United at the end of last season when Sam Allardyce left his post as boss at Upton Park.

He was scooped up by Leeds as part of a revamped and bolstered backroom staff, joining as head of recruitment at the same time Uwe Rosler was appointed as head coach.

Glover remained at Elland Road following Rosler's sacking and has been working closely with new boss Steve Evans on transfer targets.

But according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Glover is calling time on his spell at Leeds to reunite with Allardyce; Leeds have begun to search for his successor.

Allardyce, following a period out of the game, is now in charge at Sunderland and has called for his old friend to aid the Black Cats.

Losing Glover at the start of the winter transfer window will be a blow to Leeds boss Evans, who is hoping to do business this month.

Glover is claimed to have left the club yesterday.

His final act may have been negotiating with Sunderland to extend midfielder Liam Bridcutt's loan at Elland Road until the end of the season, with an announcement due soon over the former Brighton man remaining with the Whites.
