Newcastle United have not put forward any formal bid for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette after learning that he is not for sale.

The French international, who was linked with Arsenal and Liverpool in the summer, put pen-to-paper on a new deal in August which runs until 2019.

However, it was reported in some corners that struggling Premier League outfit Newcastle United lodged a £19m bid to bring the forward to St James’ Park in January to boost their survival hopes.

But according to the Press Association, the Magpies are yet to contact Lyon officially for Lacazette, who is almost certain not to leave the club during the winter transfer window.

Lacazette has scored eight goals in 22 appearances for Lyon, who are struggling and currently find themselves ninth in Ligue 1, in the current campaign.
