Liverpool have placed an initial transfer offer on Inter Milan’s table for defender Andrea Ranocchia, it has been claimed.

The former Nerazzurri captain has struggled for minutes at Inter this season and his reduced role this term has led to the defender considering his long term future at the club.

Premier League outfit Norwich City were keen to take him to England this winter, but it has emerged that Ranocchia has snubbed their interest and wants to remain in Italy for the time being.

However, Liverpool reportedly contacted Inter to probe the possibility of signing the 27-year-old earlier this week and it has been suggested that the Reds have also placed their first offer on the table.

According to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, the Premier League giants have made an offer of around €9m to take the defender to England from the San Siro during the January transfer window.
