Roma are interested in signing Liverpool linked central defender Martin Caceres during the January transfer window.

The Uruguayan defender joined Juventus from Sevilla, initially on loan in January 2012 before joining on a permanent contract six months later, but has been on the fringes of the first eleven this season.

Injuries and form have pushed the defender out of Massimiliano Allegri’s first eleven plans this term and he has made just three league appearances for the Bianconeri, leading to speculation surrounding his future.

Premier League giants Liverpool have been linked with a move for the 28-year-old in recent days, but Roma are the ones who are believed to be the current favourites to sign the defender from Juventus.

Caceres’ contract with Juventus expires at the end of the season and according to Sky Italia, Roma are ready to make a play to secure the signature of the defender during the January transfer window.

The club are expected to contact his agent in the next few days and it has been suggested that Roma are ready to sign him this month, despite him being available on a free transfer next summer.

Caceres is an experienced international defender and has earned 69 caps for Uruguay.
