Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn has revealed that he grew up admiring legendary Brazilian striker Ronaldo, while he had warm words for former Liverpool hitman Robbie Fowler.

The 25-year-old has been in prolific form for Mark Warburton’s side this season, scoring 25 goals in 27 appearances.

The former Leicester City striker arrived at Ibrox from Wigan Athletic in the summer and has cemented his place in Warburton’s side.

Waghorn scored a second half hat-trick in the Gers’ 5-1 win over Cowdenbeath at Ibrox on Sunday.

The 25-year-old was asked about which player he admired as a kid, to which he named Ronaldo and Fowler.

Waghorn also hailed Michael Owen and Andy Cole as natural finishers, but insisted that he admired Ronaldo. The striker further explained that the Brazilian always enjoyed his game and his movement was exemplary.

Answering in a Question and Answer session for Rangers’ matchday programme, Waghorn said: “Probably Ronaldo, the real one, or somebody like Robbie Fowler, I enjoyed watching him growing up.

“Michael Owen and Andy Cole were natural finishers as well, but I would have to say Ronaldo.

“The way he moved and played the game, he always enjoyed it.”

The striker will be looking to help his side earn promotion this season, with the Gers currently sitting in top spot in the Scottish Championship and hosting Livingston at home tomorrow.
