Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn feels he would need to be playing in the English Premier League to stand a chance of breaking into Roy Hodgson's England squad for Euro 2016.

The 25-year-old striker has been in sublime form this season, and has scored 25 goals in 27 competitive appearances for the Gers.

Waghorn was signed by Mark Warburton from English outfit Wigan Athletic and the striker has established himself as a key player in the Gers’ bid for promotion this season.

The striker was asked if he has a chance of making it to the squad for this summer's European Championship, to which he promptly ruled himself out, suggesting he may need to be playing in the Premier League to be considered for it.

The 25-year-old is a youth product of English Premier League side Sunderland and has had numerous unsuccessful spells with different English outfits.

However, Waghorn has kept the door open for a future return to England and if he continues his rich goalscoring form, Rangers may field approaches for his services.

Answering a Question and Answer session for Rangers’ matchday programme, Waghorn said: “To be honest, I don’t have a chance!

“I think you have to be playing in the Premier League, and you see the standards the boys are setting there – the likes of Jamie Vardy, Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney.

“We’ll see what happens in the future though!”

Rangers boss Warburton rates Waghorn highly and has consistently praised the striker's contribution since he joined the Gers.
