Werder Bremen are in talks with Chelsea over signing defender Papy Djilobodji on loan for the remainder of the season.

Djilobodji was a surprise signing for the Blues in the summer transfer window, but the man who arrived from French club Nantes has found breaking into the team at Stamford Bridge something of a mission impossible, despite Chelsea's league woes.

Now Werder Bremen want to take Djilobodji to Germany for the remainder of the season and sporting director Thomas Eichin has revealed they have already kicked off talks with Chelsea to do so.

He told German news agency SID: "We are in discussions with FC Chelsea."

The centre-back is under contract with Chelsea until the summer of 2019 and has played once for the Blues this term, in the League Cup.
