Ex-Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson is of the opinion that the Reds will eventually sell Joao Carlos Teixeira, despite the 23-year-old putting in a good display and scoring in the 3-0 win over Exeter City in a FA Cup replay last night.

The attacking midfielder, who has been trying to make his mark at the Reds, joined the club from Sporting Lisbon’s youth team in January 2012.

Teixeira has thus far made four senior appearances for the Merseyside giants, scoring his first for the club against the League Two side last night.

And Lawrenson feels that as Liverpool have a plethora of talent for the number 10 role, such as Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana and summer signing Roberto Firmino, it will be difficult for Teixeira to make his mark at Anfield.

The 58-year-old went on to add that in all probability the Portuguese is not going to be a better player than the trio, who are all internationals; and hence, Lawrenson expects Liverpool to offload him in the future.

“Teixeira has great ability, great ability, but he's another number 10”, he explained on LFC TV after the Exeter game, while discussing Teixeira’s Liverpool future.

“He's in that position where we have Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana.

“There's too many for him. He's not better than them and probably isn't going to be better than them.

“So eventually he'll probably end up getting sold.”

Teixeira, who spent loan spells at Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion during his time at Liverpool, has represented Portugal at various youth levels.
