Belgian outfit Standard Liege are close to securing the signature of Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes on loan until the end of the season, according to Belgian daily Derniere Heure.

The Spaniard joined Manchester United in January last year, after training with the club for a few months and even made two appearances for the Red Devils towards the end of the previous campaign.

However, the former Barcelona custodian fell out with manager Louis van Gaal last summer and was effectively frozen out of the first team squad, leading to him training alone in the last few months.

Van Gaal wants the Spaniard out of the club and there were suggestions that he was close to moving to Mexico, but it seems Valdes will remain in Europe until the end of the season.

It has been suggested that Belgian Pro League side Standard Liege are close to signing the goalkeeper from the Red Devils on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Standard are keen to add a goalkeeper during the January transfer window and are on the verge of reaching an agreement with Manchester United to sign the Champion League winning custodian.

Since suffering a serious injury towards the end of his Barcelona career in 2014, Valdes has played just 107 minutes of football.
