Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero expects a tough encounter against Everton in the second leg of the semi-final of the League Cup tomorrow night.

The Citizens succumbed to a 2-1 loss at the hands of Roberto Martinez’s side in the first leg at Goodison Park.

Ramiro Funes Mori opened the scoring in injury time of the first half for the Toffees, before Jesus Navas equalised in the 76th minute.

The English Premier League's second highest scorer – Romelu Lukaku – put his side ahead with a sumptuous header immediately after the restart.

The two sides again locked horns in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium, which resulted in a 0-0 draw.

Caballero believes a draw would not have been an ideal result for his team, but it would have been better than the result they eventually managed.

The Argentine shot-stopper acknowledges that the Toffees are tough to on their travels and expects a tough encounter tomorrow night.

However, the 34-year-old accepts nothing less than an extremely difficult encounter at this stage of the League Cup is par for the course.

Speaking in an interview with the club’s official website, Caballero said: “A draw would not have been perfect, but it would obviously would have been better.

“Everton proved in the Premier League match recently that they are difficult to beat away from home and we expect the same again on Wednesday.

“I think they’ve only lost one of their 11 Premier League games away from this season and are well-organised and have some really good players so it will be tough, but we wouldn’t expect anything less at this stage of the competition.”

Everton, who have never won the League Cup since its inception in 1960, will be looking to progress to the final to have a chance to win their maiden trophy, while Manchester City will be looking to repeat their triumph of 2014, if they manage to overturn their first leg deficit and ensure a berth in the final.
