Arsenal are on red alert after Barcelona failed to secure a deal with Celta Vigo to sign Nolito during the winter transfer window, with a purchase option in the summer, according to Catalan daily Sport.

Arsenal and Barcelona have been heavily linked with a move for the striker, who has been incessantly mooted as being ready to quit Celta Vigo this winter.

The Spanish champions overtook the Gunners in their bid to snap up Nolito earlier in the month, but now it seems Barcelona have failed to reach an agreement with Celta Vigo, thus leaving the door open for Arsenal to strike up a deal with the Sky Blues.

Arsene Wenger too is claimed to have recommended the signing of the forward, who has scored eight goals and provided five assists in 15 La Liga games in the present campaign.

The Premier League outfit currently only have Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott as the club’s recognised strikers.

Nolito, whose present deal with Celta Vigo runs until 2019, is a former Barcelona player, but he failed to make his mark at the Camp Nou during his first spell at the club.

The 29-year-old also has four senior caps for Spain to his name, although he is yet to open his account on the international front.
