Leeds United legend Gary McAllister believes new signing Toumani Diagouraga is exactly the type of player the Elland Road outfit need to earn promotion to the Premier League.

The 28-year-old combative midfielder was signed by Leeds from rivals Brentford on a contract running until the summer of 2018 earlier this week.

Diagouraga made his debut for Steve Evans’ side in last night’s 1-1 draw against the Bees at Griffin Park, being brought on after an hour.

McAllister, who made over 250 appearances for the Whites during his six-year spell with the club, believes his former side have been re-energised with the investment made by the owner Massimo Cellino.

The 51-year-old feels that the Whites have the ambition to get back into the English Premier League and expressed his excitement at the signing of the 28-year-old Frenchman.
