Leeds United manager Steve Evans has insisted that he is receiving the complete backing of Massimo Cellino when it comes to transfers and it is his job to identify targets.

The Whites received flak from their fans towards the end of the transfer window when they failed to sign any new players other than Mustapha Carayol and Toumani Diagouraga, despite assertions of working on deals on deadline day.

The club lost one of their academy jewels in the form of Sam Byram in January, when he opted to join West Ham and many felt the club didn’t do enough to replace the departed full-back.

Cellino has been the target of some of the ire of the fans for failing to provide the funds needed during January, but Evans insisted that is not the case and the club president has backed him to the hilt when it comes to transfers.

The Leeds boss also added that the Italian has also given him complete freedom when it comes to identifying suitable transfer targets.

When asked whether he is receiving the backing of the Leeds president, the Scot told LUTV: “The backing’s there isn't it?

“I propose the players to the president, then we try and get them in. It’s my job to propose the players and it’s something I agreed with him when I came here.”

Evans is expecting Cellino to provide him the funds needed to adequately revamp the Leeds squad in the summer as he looks to build a team good enough to challenge for promotion next season.
