Leeds United legend Eddie Gray admits that the Whites are going to be massive underdogs when they travel to Vicarage Road to take on Watford in the fifth round of the FA Cup later this month.

The Whites kept moving forward in the competition with a win over Bolton Wanderers earlier this month, but will now have to tackle Premier League opposition in the form of Watford in order to make further progress.

While Watford just earned promotion to the Premier League last season, the Hornets have been impressive in the top tier and are currently ninth in the table on 33 points, fairing far better than their promotion counterparts Bournemouth and Norwich City.

Gray admits that Leeds are going to be odds-on favourites to exit the FA Cup at Watford later this month, and believes the Hornets’ form suggests that the Whites are in for a tough day out in Hertfordshire.

The Leeds legend said on LUTV: “It’s not the most glamorous tie, we are going to go there as big second favourites.

“They are a good team, they have proven it in the Premier League.

"They are in that top half of the table and on merit.

"You look at their forward line and you look at the results we had there in the last couple of seasons, you think ‘tough task’.”

The former Whites boss also feels if Quique Sanchez Flores’ boys get a few more positive results ahead of the FA Cup game, they might go all out to win the competition as they would have virtually guaranteed their safety in the Premier League for this season.

“The thing which makes it tough for me is that another couple of results in the Premier League, they will be thinking we are safe, we are going to get the team to the FA Cup.

"That would be a way for them to become a big club again, and they are perfectly capable of it.

“They have proved this season that they are capable of beating anybody, especially on their own patch, so it’s a tough game for us.”
