Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton feels manager Ronny Deila has been a failure and feels that the Bhoys have just been papering over the cracks under the Norwegian.

Celtic have now suffered back-to-back defeats against Ross County and Aberdeen, and the former will hurt the Bhoys the most as it crushed their hopes of winning the domestic treble

The loss against Aberdeen also helped the Pittodrie outfit to reduce the gap between the two sides at the top of the Scottish Premiership to just three points, while they then drew level on points by beating St Johnstone today.

Sutton played for the Bhoys in a hugely successful six-year spell during which he lifted the Scottish league title on four occasions, along with three Scottish Cups and one Scottish League Cup.

The former Chelsea striker managed to score 86 goals for the Glasgow side in 199 appearances.

Sutton highlighted the importance of Champions League football for the Bhoys, but insisted that the club have failed to it for the past two years.

The former England international also blasted his former side for their inability to bring in a new manager in January and believes that the Bhoys have been just papering over the cracks.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Radio 5 live, Sutton said: "European football is really important for Celtic.

"I think [chief executive] Peter Lawwell said they need to qualify for the Champions League three years out of every five for their financial stability.

"He's [Deila] failed two years running.

"They had the opportunity to have a new manager come in and buy his own players in January.

“The problem is they thrashed Hamilton and Dundee United at the start of the month and beat Stranraer in the Scottish Cup and everybody was getting carried away.

"They were papering over the cracks.

"Now they can't win the treble now, which Deila was clinging to.”

Celtic travel to the Excelsior Stadium to take on Lowland Football League outfit East Kilbride in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup tomorrow.
