ADO Den Haag central midfielder Kyle Ebecilio admits that Memphis Depay is the only player who has stood out from the Netherlands team that won the Under-17 European Championship in 2011.

The Dutch defeated arch rivals Germany in the final of the tournament to lift the Under-17 European Championship in 2011, and a lot was expected from the group of youngsters going forward, as they were dubbed a golden generation.




Ebecilio, who was the joint top scorer in the tournament, was adjudicated the best player of the competition, and on the back of his performances with the Dutch Under-17 team, he was snapped up by Arsenal in 2012.

However, the midfielder couldn’t make the cut in north London and was promptly released in 2013, when he was picked up by FC Twente. He is currently on loan with Eredevisie outfit ADO Den Haag.
 


Manchester United’s Depay was also part of the team that won the Under-17 tournament in 2011, and Ebecilio admits that the winger is the only player from that side who has really stood out in recent years.

The midfielder told De Gelderlander, when asked who he felt has actually progressed from the Under-17 team: “Actually, Memphis is the only one.

“He really sticks out and Manchester United are already at the top. I, like a lot of those other guys, have experienced ups and downs.

“We are still young, and we might reach the summit via a detour. Everyone has their own way.”

Depay scored in the final against Germany, and was also named in the team of the tournament.
