Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that he will only be available for another managerial role in the summer.

Rodgers was sacked by the Reds in October after a poor start to the Premier League campaign, despite heavy spending in the summer and was replaced by Jurgen Klopp.

The 43-year-old spent more than three years with the Anfield side, having joined the Reds in May 2012 from Swansea City.

Rodgers confirmed that he was approached by his former employers, Swansea, after they sacked manager Garry Monk on 9th December 2015.

Rodgers had helped Swansea earn promotion to the Premier League in 2011, but the 43-year-old insists that he is not ready to return to football management before summer.

Speaking to broadcaster beIN Sports, Rodgers said: "I spoke to Huw Jenkins, the chairman, and people I know well but I made it clear, I was pretty open.

"Swansea is a wonderful club, and there were also a couple of other Premier League clubs I could have gone back to, but I was open and up front.

"I wasn't going to be available to come into a club before the summer."

Rodgers confirmed that he has had five opportunities from clubs he respected to return to football management following his departure from Anfield.

However, the 43-year-old feels that he needs to take some time out, as football management is very intense.

"I have had five opportunities since I left Liverpool to get back into work, all at clubs I really respect.

"But I just felt I wanted to take some time out. It is very intense when you are in the game."
