Rangers defensive midfielder Andy Halliday has insisted that he is not concerned about playing further up the pitch as he admitted that Dominic Ball has done well protecting the backline.

Halliday, who joined the Gers from Bradford City in the summer, has been in fine form this season, scoring six goals and providing five assists in 30 games in all competitions.

However, the 24-year-old missed the 1-0 win over Falkirk in the Scottish Championship last month through suspension, with Ball slotting into his position.

The defender, who is currently on a season-long loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur, has managed to do justice to his new-found role so much so that Mark Warburton decided to trust Ball with a holding midfield role again.

Halliday has since taken a more attacking role in the side, and he even managed to score in the 1-0 win over Raith Rovers earlier in the month.

And the former Bradford man, who explained that he is happy to move further up the pitch, feels Ball merits playing as a defensive midfielder.

“My stance doesn’t change, I’m just happy if I’m playing football for Rangers, and whether that is holding midfield or further forward, I’m not too fussed”, he told the club’s official site.

“What I will say is that Dom Ball has come in and done really well. You have got to preach that within your players – you train well, you play well and you keep the jersey, it’s as simple as that and Dom deserves to keep the jersey.

“I have no qualms about that and I am happy to be further forward.

"I’ve said since the start of the season I think I have goals in my game and I managed to grab one against Raith and I was disappointed not to get on the scoresheet against Kilmarnock last weekend, but like I said, if that’s the position I play between now and the end of the season then I need to stake my claim to keep the shirt.”
