Former Liverpool manager Roy Evans has insisted that although he was pleased with Christian Benteke’s display in the 2-1 loss to West Ham United in an FA Cup replay last night, the striker must improve his finishing touch.

The Belgian, who joined the Reds from Aston Villa in the summer, has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield, despite the club being short of options up front due to injuries.

Jurgen Klopp prefers fellow summer signing Roberto Firmino playing as a false number nine, thereby relegating Benteke to the bench in the Premier League games.

However, the 25-year-old started against the Hammers and put in a good performance at Upton Park.

But the forward squandered some decent goalscoring opportunities in spite of getting into the right areas of the pitch.

And Evans, who wants Benteke to carry forward his performance to the upcoming games, nonetheless, feels the former Aston Villa man should work hard on his finishing.

“Christian Benteke was great, his movement was better, but apart from his finishing touch”, he said on LFC TV, while discussing Benteke’s impact.

“I’ll be happy if he takes it to the next game. But you’ve got to have that finishing touch.”

Benteke has thus far made 30 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, scoring seven times and providing five assists.
