Leeds United assistant boss Paul Raynor insists that the coaching team at Elland Road have transformed centre-back Giuseppe Bellusci.

Raynor arrived at the club earlier this season along with head coach Steve Evans, the former Rotherham United boss bringing in his trusted assistant to help with the job of pulling the Whites clear of trouble in the Championship.

Bellusci has established himself as a fixture under Evans and, along with central defensive partner Liam Cooper, kept skipper Sol Bamba out of the side.

The Italian defender splits opinion amongst Leeds fans and has regularly been guilty of rash challenges. But Raynor feels that the coaching team at Leeds have taken Bellusci to previously unscaled heights.

"I think the performances of Bellusci have absolutely increased ten fold from what I've been told", he told BBC Radio Leeds.

"I didn't see a lot of him prior to coming here, only when we've been in opposition and watching clips.

"But from what I am told his performance levels have gone up and they've gone up remarkably."

Bellusci was the subject of interest from clubs in Italy in the winter transfer window, but Leeds were determined he would not leave and he was still at Elland Road when deadline day passed.
