FC Midtjylland defender Nikolay Bodurov admits that he has old scores to settle with Manchester United and wants to destroy the Red Devils in the Europa League.

The 29-year-old Bulgarian defender joined the Danish champions on loan from Fulham on transfer deadline day and he is expected to be in the team when Manchester United will take on Midtjylland in the first leg of their Europa League round of 32 clash next Thursday.

Bodurov is looking forward to taking on the might of the 20-time English champions and admits that he wants to heal some old wounds by beating the Red Devils.

The defender is a childhood Bayern Munich fan and he is still smarting from the defeat that his favourite side suffered at the hands of Manchester United in the 1999 Champions League final, when Sir Alex Ferguson’s team scored two late goals to break German hearts at the Nou Camp.

He admits that defeat is still hard to take and he wants to ‘destroy’ the English giants in the Europa League as a Midtjylland player to avenge Bayern Munich’s loss all those years ago.

Bodurov told Danish daily Ekstra Bladet: “I remember the final really well.

“Two goals in one minute, and they took the trophy. It is one of the reasons I don’t like them.

“So, I will not only eliminate Manchester United, I will also destroy them.”
