Mark Warburton says Rangers are fuming after only managing to draw 1-1 away at bottom club Alloa Athletic today in a Scottish Championship fixture.

Rangers were dominant from the start at the Indodrill Stadium, but found an Alloa goalkeeper in inspired form in the shape of Scott Gallacher. The custodian made a number of saves and Rangers found themselves heading in 0-0 at the break.

Then in the second half the visitors were stunned after Jason Marr got on the end of a corner to head Alloa in front just after the hour mark.

Alloa dug in, trying to see out the game, but Michael O'Halloran popped up to level the game in the 83rd minute as the immense Rangers' pressure eventually told.

Rangers could then have won it, but James Tavernier saw his header tipped over by Gallacher and the Gers had to settle for a 1-1 draw, something Warburton knows they are fuming with.

"It’s highly frustrating. The players are in the dressing room angry and irate, but it about the group – it’s not about one player or a group of players, it’s about everyone together, and as a group of staff and players we are really frustrated today as for all the good work we did we didn’t get the end rewards", the Englishman told Rangers TV.

"We have to be more clinical in front of goal to get the rewards for all of our good work."

And Warburton feels Rangers were so dominant that it would not have looked out of place for them to be 5-0 up at half time.

"There was some great play. We could have been one-up after a minute, two-up after five and it could have been four or five at half-time – and that’s no disrespect to our opponent.

"Some of our interplay was really pleasing. It is a difficult surface – and that’s not an excuse in any way – but it is difficult and you find players taking an extra touch to control the ball, but in football you simply have to put the ball into the back of the net, and we created chance after chance.

"It’s the nature of the game. Sometimes you score five or six having not played so well, other times you play really well and only score one", he added.

Next up for Rangers is a visit to Rugby Park to take on Kilmarnock in a Scottish Cup replay on Tuesday evening and Warburton will want his side to be more clinical with their opportunities.
