Mauricio Pochettino has expressed his delight over Tottenham Hotspur’s ‘perfect performance’ against Manchester City on Sunday, which resulted in a 2-1 win for Spurs.

Christian Eriksen’s 83rd minute goal earned all three points for Spurs at the Etihad after Kelechi Iheanacho’s 74th minute strike cancelled out Harry Kane’s penalty in the 53rd minute, which had given the lead to Pochettino’s men.

The win took them to just within two points of league leaders Leicester City, who lost to Arsenal and Tottenham are now being considered serious challengers for the Premier League title this season.

Pochettino admits that the game had that big match feeling about it, and was happy to see his players respond with a performance which he feels was perfect, to get the win in Manchester City's backyard.

The Tottenham boss told the BBC: "I think that it was a game that was very important. You could feel it was not a normal game and a real test for us, for that we feel very pleased for the players.

“The mentality was good and a perfect performance against a team with a lot of quality players who are top class; full credit to my players.”

On the penalty incident, which helped them to take a lead at the Etihad, the Spurs boss remained non-committal and added that in football such things can happen to each team over the course of a season.

"From my point of view, I did not see the penalty incident. Sometimes in football it happens, it goes for you and against you in the season.”
