Fiorentina coach Paulo Sousa believes that Tottenham Hotspur are amongst the top five sides in Europe, after his team lost to the English club 3-0 last night to exit the Europa League 4-1 on aggregate.

The Serie A outfit knew that they had to score against Spurs last night after conceding an away goal in the home leg, but a Ryan Mason strike in the 25th minute gave the north Londoners a wonderful cushion in their Europa League round of 32 tie.

An Erik Lamela goal just after the hour mark more or less killed the tie and an own goal from skipper Gonzalo Rodriguez completed the Viola's misery but Sousa feels until Tottenham’s second of the night, his team were very much in the tie.

While he believes Tottenham were the much superior side and deserved to move in to the last 16 of the Europa League, he feels that his side controlled large parts of the proceedings last night but only lacked a bit in the final third.

The Fiorentina boss feels Spurs are in the top five teams in Europe and told Sky Italia: “In the end, the supremacy of Tottenham was obvious, but until 2-0 we were in the game.

“We knew the qualities of Spurs, who play with intensity throughout the game; we had control but lacked the final product.

“The boys gave their all against a very strong team, amongst the top five in Europe.”

Tottenham will look to maintain their momentum in the Premier League when they host Swansea on Sunday, before London derbies away to West Ham and at home to Arsenal.
