Liam Bridcutt thinks Leeds United provided him with the perfect opportunity to show that he is ready to be back in the Scotland national team.

The defensive midfielder, who was picked by Scotland boss Gordon Strachan for the nation’s friendly fixture against Denmark at Hampden on 29th March, initially joined Leeds from Sunderland on a short-term deal in November before extending his stay at Elland Road until the end of the season during the winter transfer window.

Bridcutt has thus far made 20 appearances in all competitions for the Yorkshire giants, clocking up 1,781 minutes, something he would have failed to achieve at Sunderland.

And the midfield enforcer, who has represented Scotland’s senior team just once previously, admitted that prior to joining Leeds in November, he never thought he would receive another international call-up by the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

“At the start, I probably wouldn’t”, Bridcutt admitted to LUTV, when asked if he thought in November that he would be back in the Scotland team by the end of the season.

“All I needed was games to prove that I’m ready to be back in the squad.

“That is what Leeds United gave me, a great opportunity to showcase that.”

Bridcutt, who has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, is contracted with Sunderland until 2017.
