Former Rangers defender Colin Miller feels Fraser Aird’s loan spell in the MLS will stand him in good stead once he returns to the club later this year.

Mark Warburton allowed the 21-year-old winger to join Vancouver Whitecaps in January on loan until October, in order to provide him with more first team football.

He played just 36 minutes of football in the Scottish Championship before he moved to Canada in January and despite Vancouver losing their first two games in the MLS, Aird played key roles in both those fixtures.

Miller, who is the head coach of Canadian outfit FC Edmonton, watched the Rangers starlet in action for Vancouver, and is hopeful that his experience in the MLS will help him to play a more important role at Rangers once he returns later this year.

The former defender told the club’s official website: “I was at the Whitecaps game when Fraser made his debut last week, and he did OK.

“It was unusual to see him playing right full-back, but he will gain some very valuable experience and hopefully that will benefit him when he comes back to Rangers.”

A product of the Rangers academy, Aird was a Scotland youth international, but opted to represent Canada at senior level, and made his debut for the country last year.
