Former Manchester United winger Nani admits that being part of the 2008 Champions League winning team will remain a special moment in his career.

The Portuguese international joined Manchester United in the summer of 2007 from Sporting Lisbon, and already had a Premier League winner’s medal around his neck when he travelled to Moscow for the Champions League final against Chelsea.

Nani didn’t start, but came on in extra time and had a telling contribution in Manchester United’s win when he converted his spot-kick under pressure keep to his team alive in the penalty shootout.

The 29-year-old, now at Fenerbahce, admits that night in Moscow will remain etched in his memory forever, and he was pleased to play a part in winning the Champions League for Sir Alex Ferguson’s team.

In an interview with UEFA, the Portuguese said: “When you are on the bench you dream [about getting] on the pitch because it's a final – it's the biggest moment.

“And then I had this opportunity.

"I came on in extra time and then scored a penalty, and I'm so happy to know I was part of that success and that story of a big club. It was a great experience.

“It shows kids that they have to prepare for when they don't play, because in one day, in one game, in five minutes, your life can change.”

During his eight-year stay at Old Trafford, Nani won four Premier League titles, a League Cup, a Champions League and a FIFA Club World Cup.
