Former Swansea City manager Garry Monk wants to take over at Aston Villa, despite the club being set for relegation to the Championship this season.

Monk parted ways with Swansea earlier this season as the Welsh giants acted to stop a run of poor form and the prospect of the Swans being dragged into the relegation dogfight in the Premier League.

He is keen to return to the game and, according to the Press Association, is eyeing the vacant post at Aston Villa.

Frenchman Remi Garde left Villa Park recently, becoming the second manager to have parted ways with the Midlands club in the current campaign.

Monk was in charge of Swansea for a total of 77 games and won 28, translating into a win rate of 36 per cent.
