Leeds United boss Steve Evans admits that he is keen to discuss plans for next season with Massimo Cellino, but not before he ensures that the club are mathematically safe from relegation from the Championship.

Tuesday night’s win over Birmingham City at St. Andrew’s has more or less guaranteed Leeds will be playing Championship football next season, but mathematically the Whites are still not safe from relegation.

While Leeds have loftier ambitions towards the end of the season, such as finishing in the top ten, Evans insisted that he won’t speak with the club owner as long as Leeds are not guaranteed to safeguard their Championship status.

There is still no clarity over whether the Scot will remain Leeds boss by the time next season rolls out, but he insisted that he has got lots to talk about with Cellino when they eventually meet.

The Leeds boss was quoted as saying by the Yorkshire Evening Post: “I think when we get mathematical safety, it would allow me to ask a question.

“But my only focus after Saturday, 100 per cent, will be Wolves on Tuesday. Then, diaries permitting, I will speak to the president about next season.

"I already have questions about pre-season activity and dates and schedules and opposition and such like anyway.

“It’s really about getting in his diary and sitting down with him.”

Leeds will be hosting former manager Brian McDermott’s Reading side later today at Elland Road.
